History

A game born in 1996, documented in 2002, preserved in source control.

The original website is a genuine part of the repository's history: framesets, image buttons, applet launch instructions, and all. The new site does not overwrite that material; it contextualizes it.

Archive Layers

The new site coexists with the old one rather than replacing it.

1996 Ambition

The old home page still claims one of the first fully Java client-based graphical multi-user adventure games on the internet. That energy matters, even if the technical assumptions are dated.

2002 Revision

Later edits acknowledged that technology had moved on while the game still had heart. That tension is preserved in the archive pages and informs the tone of this restoration.

2026 Restoration

This modern site reinterprets the old material into a browser-safe structure while keeping the original HTML, images, and applet paths intact for historical reference.

Recovered Voice

The old docs still sound like a creator speaking directly to players and builders.

Lord Leviathan's Welcome

Renegade Incarnate welcomes you, Adventurer.

We would like to welcome you to the first completely Java client based mud in the world (at least that we know of). In the development of Renegade Incarnate we have tried to take the best elements of traditional MUD based gaming (namely the incredible depth in game play, 100’s of users playing at a time) and combine it with the traditional graphics of a tile based adventure game but with 24bit color! What we came up with is quite special, and we hope that you agree. The user interface that we have developed is completely written in Java so assuming your browser supports it you shouldn’t have any problems playing our game. We would highly recommend Internet Explorer 3, or Netscape Navigator 3. Both of which offer a JIT (just in time compiler), which should greatly enhance the speed of the game. If you are not using one of these Browsers and would like to (And we HIGHLY recommend that you do), we have included links to their respective companies at the bottom of this one. If you click on one of them you should be able to obtain a copy of either of the two. We would also like to remind you that this adventure game is in its Beta stages, and keeping that in mind there may be times when it is not currently up. Our time frame is that Sept 1 through September 30, we will be completing area development and the beta testing of the game. Come October First we would like to be out of our beta stages and actually be promoting the game over the internet. In the mean time play it and HAVE FUN!

Early Design Pressure

Matthew's Top Ten List of INC things.

That agenda still matches the modern restoration surprisingly well: world depth, communication, fighting, travel, and tools remain the spine of the project.

What The Team Wanted To Build

The archive also preserves a direct wishlist of creatures, classes, and systems.
